If you have ever been treated by me, gone camping with me, or walked my dogs with me down at the beach, you will likely have noticed that I am a huge fan of going barefoot. I also encourage my clients to go barefoot as much as possible, especially indoors around the house.

Maybe this idea seems like crazy-talk; if you have worn orthotics your whole life and/or have a history of plantar fasciitis or foot pain, or so-called flat/fallen arches, then maybe you wouldn’t dare walk around without those birkenstocks on all day. Often I hear some form of indoor shoes are needed even before putting the feet down from the bed in the AM.

If you want to know more about why this happens, and why [working up to] going barefoot or wearing barefoot/minimalist shoes is the right move, check out this brilliant piece by Australian Foot Nerd @softtissuemick. Written better than I ever could!
